There are many advantages to living in Guernsey. Those of us who
have chosen the Island as our homes enjoy a quality of life which is relaxed and
uncomplicated and yet enables us to indulge in our various pursuits. Though
still conscious of the necessity of keeping up with the changing patterns of
life, Guernsey manages to do so with taste and dignity and yet at the same time
still remains much of its original character and charm.
The quality of life for the 60,000 population of Guernsey is reflected in the
high standard of its shops, restaurants and excellent leisure facilities. The
Island's prosperity over the last few years is also portrayed in its first class
public facilities. These include a modern and well equipped hospital,
multi-million pound leisure centre, brand new airport terminal, modern harbour
facilities including yacht marinas, schools, etc.
Being "environment conscious" the Island has been able to protect its
picturesque variety of scenery; from the rolling countryside to be found in the
heart of St Andrew's to the rugged south coast cliffs, with their famous cliff
paths; contrasting with the numerous sandy bays and coves ideal for swimming or
boating, which skirt the island. Leisure time can be spent in pursuit of the
arts. Internationally renowned artistes perform in the acoustically superb St.
James Cultural Centre; whilst the award winning Candie Museum also adds to the
Island's cultural scene.
If leisure means sport to you, then the field is wide - virtually every sport is
catered for. Retired people enjoy pastimes such as bridge and bowls, whilst a
testing 18 hole golf course is situated alongside the north coast bays at
L'Ancresse.
Needless to say, boating features highly on the list of Islanders' leisure
activities; with the picturesque adjacent islands of Sark and Herm being
favourite haunts. All sounds tempting? Well, come and join us!
