Guernsey's Lieutenant Governor has taken his seat in the States for the final time.

His Excellence Sir John Foley, who officially leaves the island on Wednesday, was greeted by States members with a round of applause.

Sir John addressed the States of Guernsey and said he had been honoured and privileged to serve the island.

Crowds of well-wishers are expected at St Peter Port quayside to say goodbye to Sir John and Lady Foley.

The new Lieutenant Governor, Vice Admiral Sir Fabian Malbon, will be sworn into office on 18 October.

The Lieutenant Governor is the Queen's representative in the island.
