In 2003, Guernsey Museums commissioned a website in celebration of the life of one of the island’s famous sons, Captain William Le Lacheur.

William became a national hero in Costa Rica and is credited with transforming the country from being the poorest in Central America to the wealthiest, in less than a quarter of a century. William Le Lacheur’s ships went on to feature on Costa Rican bank notes and postage stamps during the 19th and 20th centuries.

The site is at www.williamlelacheur.com and it is hoped that it will develop into an increasingly valuable online resource as contributions to the William Le Lacheur forum grow.
