Information on Guernsey's economy

 The Island’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was estimated at £1,386 million in 2003. This equates to £23,175 per head of population.

According to the 2001 Guernsey Census there were 32,293 people employed in Guernsey, of which, 28,139 were working for an employer and 4,154 were self employed. Unemployment in Guernsey has continued at low levels and stands at less than 1% of the workforce.

The overall trend in the level of inflation has been somewhat cyclical over the last 10 years, and has tended to follow the movements of the UK RPI, but at a slightly higher level. At the end of December 2004 , the Guernsey RPI stood at 4.9%.

The States Income on Revenue Account was £288 million and the Expenditure on Revenue Account was £204 million in 2003.

The Policy and Research Unit is responsible for compiling and analysing statistics and information on the Island of Guernsey, primarily for the purpose of informing policy decisions taken by the States of Guernsey. The Unit publishes information on general prices inflation (the Retail Prices Index), as well as House Prices Inflation. Statistics on the labour market and population are also produced. Other important information on housing, passenger movements, and tourism and travel in the Island is also produced.
